We at Stone Belt should be providing the safest home environment for our clients & work environment for our workers.
We need to give guidance on what cleaning products are the safest. The Environmental Working Group has the best site I’ve found that rates all products by the safety of their ingredients. EWG.org
When Covid hit I looked up the EPA’s guide & they found the most effective in killing covid was ozone. Second most effective was paracetic acid. Paracetic acid is so safe it is used on organic trees as an antifungal & to disinfect organic fruits & vegetables. It is 50% more effective against covid than bleach, without causing the COPD that bleach causes.
Bleach usage is not only is the main cause of COPD (lung degeneration), but on some surfaces it increases mold growth. Because of the lung damage it creates with any smelling of it bleach it increases respiratory infections & deaths from covid. One place I helped who reduced their bleach usage saw a large decrease in sick days & increase in staff retention.
Both bleach & ammonia based products are damaging to the lungs at any level of exposure. So many products contain ammonia & bleach that the using two cleaners often ends up mixing the two. The American Lung Association warns against all usage of bleach & ammonia as damaging to the lungs & too often deadly.
Peracetic acid can be bought or created for 30 seconds by cleaning with vinegar & spraying with hydrogen peroxide afterward as a disinfectant. Vinegar can be used safely except on marble.
